What a difference some paint makes

The cherry picker
The weather has been really shit this week, pretty much raining everyday and all through the night. This makes it especially hard work with the cherry picker because the ground is so wet and it sinks in. This morning Glen and I took advantage of a break in the weather to use the cherry picker to rub down and paint two of the window frames set into the roof of the 16th century wing. Whilst I am not too keen on heights I have to say that you do get a lovely view of the park to the front of the chateau from up there!

These window frames are made from cast iron but I am not sure from exactly what date they are from. I do know that cast iron was first used for windows during the 1700's and became more popular and elaborate during the 1800's. I know that this wing underwent a major refurbishment during the mid 1700's so maybe they date from that time. The rust came off quite easily, it was mostly only on the surface as whoever had painted them before had done a pretty good job.

Once they were finished they looked amazing, totally standing out
Good job
as you looked at the chateau from a distance. We have also removed the windows themselves which are also cast iron and will now have these sand blasted, painted and reglazed before refitting them. I can't wait to see this view of the chateau with them finished and most of the shutters painted too.
