The Moat

Whilst we had the digger in this week we took advantage and cleared a lot of the moat of the weeds and rotten debris. We have also started to rebuild the old dry stone wall that has fallen down in a few places. We need to get this done in the next couple of months before the rain comes and fills up the moat. Even at this early stage

it is a great improvement. The main problem as with everywhere else is weeds, ivy and trees growing were they should not - basically a total lack of maintenance over the last 20 to 30 years. It is really quite unbelievable that anyone can let such a lovely place fall into decay.

Eventually we will rebuild all of the dry wall that used to enclose the moat. I think that the biggest job at the chateau is repairing and re building the dry stone wall that surrounds the whole place. I will most likely be an expert at it by the time I have finished. It is actually quite relaxing and gives immediate satisfaction.
