Loo with a view

One of the strange things we found in the chateau and have been wondering about it for ages is to be found in the room that we have just gutted. As you will see in the first photo there is an alcove with a round window in it. This window does not allow you to see outside..... it just looks directly through a corridor

and into a toilet!! What is the explanation other than the obvious one that will spring into most peoples dirty minds ;)  I am almost 100% sure that the wall it is set in was originally an outside wall. It is very thick and the rooms to the other side are almost certainly from an extension added during the 1700's. When you are outside this part of the chateau you can see the original cornerstones of this wall but they are now in the middle, not the corner. Also I have been in the attic above this part of the chateau and you can clearly see that the roof has been extended at some point.
