Today Mark & I started work to repair the large crack on the outside of one of the oldest walls of the chateau. The history and all that we have done so far on this damage is covered in great detail in earlier posts. We hope to have it totally finished in another couple of days but here are a few pics from today. You will see just how big the crack and holes are when we pull out all of the loose stones and ancient pointing. Everywhere that we find a large hole
and damage we find ivy - ivy really causes so much damage to

these types of wall. Once we have pulled out the loose stones we clear the area out and then vacuum the loose pointing out before resetting the stones back into the wall. Finally we then point them in. When the pointing dries it will be lighter in colour and we will then brush it all down and it will look as good as new. We are doing it is such a way that we will preserve the history of this wall - you will still be able to see the outline of the two old doorways.
