Shutters going back

Glen hangs out of the window
All that Glen and myself have been doing for the last two weeks is paint and prepare the last remaining shutters that we have had stripped of the old paint. It is quite a long job as they need four coats of paint and a lot of drying time. Then we have to replace all of the hinges with new bolts - the hinges are also repainted in black. We have also been rust proofing and repainting the supports for the shutters that are set into the chateau walls - this has involved some hanging out of the windows! Then we have to rehang the shutters themselves which are not light

- they are several hundred years old and solid oak! Thankfully the ones for the first floor windows are louvered and smaller so we could manage these ok - me on a ladder and Glen in the open window. However the final result was really good, you can really see the chateau coming back to life now. Glen has spent the majority of his time here restoring the shutters so a big thanks to him for that as well as cooking all my meals and serving up the rum!!
