Work in the park

To the front of the chateau is a lovely park that 

leads down to the woods. To the right of this park are the outbuildings that once would have been used to grow food and house animals for the chateau. Today Igor & Julianna worked for hours in the pouring rain to clean away all the weeds, grass & moss that had grown up over the years in front of the main barn / stable. 

When I first saw this in February it was not too overgrown but

since then it has become a lot worse. Once they had finished a beautiful and very high quality stone paved area was revealed - amazing! Thanks guys. It just shows that in previous times this chateau must have been incredible and it is such a travesty for it to fall into such a sorry state!

Old dead tree

Also over the past weeks we have been felling the dead trees and in the park there was one very big and 

very dead tree and today was the day it was going to come down. It took several hours to cut through the huge trunk and for it to finally hit the ground. It really came down with a big thud that echoed around the place. Sad for what much have been a great tree to end up in such a fashion but at least we have quite few old and very big trees still in the park. We plan to slice the main trunk up

Finally down

and get Mark our carpenter to make some nice coffee tables for the chateau from it. Th tree must have been here for hundreds of years and it will be nice to keep a part of it in the chateau.
