Always we find something

As things progress with the clearing of the tower rooms we are still finding a few little surprises. Today Mark & Oscar were ripping the old plumbing pipes out in one of the rooms in the right hand round tower. This will become the en-suite bathroom to the "Honeymoon" suite. Part of this room has suffered very badly from water damage. There was a badly leaking gutter and drainpipe right by this tower and for years water has been getting in. We will repair the stone work on the outside this summer. However one of the window frames was completely rotten and the window just came way in their hands. Plaster was coming off the walls around it very easily because of the dampness. One big chunk came away revealing a
large niche cut into the stone. It looks like maybe a place for a candle or a small statue perhaps. It is about 50cm tall and I think quite old. Elsewhere in the chateau Michelle continued with removing the plaster from the internal stone walls. We had removed an ugly modern fireplace and today when she removed the plaster above the original chimney was revealed. You can see the back of the fireplace in the room next door and above it the old chimney going up.
