Face lift

One of the biggest jobs the we have at the chateau is the walls. Not just repairing them inside and out but removing most of the render or plaster that they have been coated with. These old stone walls are built with lime mortar and are not supposed to be covered. They need to breath in order to stay stable. Also they look so much better when they are returned to their original state. We did a little experiment to see how long it would take us to remove some of the render on the outside and then repoint it. It was surprisingly  much
quicker than we thought so it is actually feasible over the next two years to pretty much remove all of this render, give the chateau a facelift and at the same time return it to its original look! Another advantage is that we will not have to paint all the walls!!!

Also Mark has been bricking or should I say stoning up the old chimney in what will become a guest bedroom. It has been quite a job and now all that needs to happen is for the lime mortar to dry to a nice light colour.
