Finally a few "Finds"

For the last two months we have been taking up floors, digging out earth beneath them and opening up fire places. We really expected to find a few things, coins dropped, old tools, carved names or dates and hopefully a large stash of gold! But so far nothing. Then this week as Eduardo and Ronan are digging out the earth in a small room from the 18th century part of the chateau we at last find a few bits! Nothing great, just broken pottery and half a wild boar jaw bone! Certainly no gold but interesting bits for sure. They were in a rubble layer under the earth that the floor tiles sat on. So it seems
that when the built this part of the chateau they used earth much as we would use a concrete scarred today. Whilst I am no expert on old pottery with the benefits of years watching "Time Team" and the help of google images I have an idea. The oldest piece I am pretty sure is Roman, a top of a course clay jar. The other bits are glazed and hand painted too. I think they would date from 13th - 15th century and certainly in keeping with the age of the chateau.
