There is a part of the chateau that we call the farmyard. It is surrounded by the outbuildings and judging from the little pens there it was used to house animals. Last year we cut down six very big trees that had grown out of all control in there.
This year the weeds have gone crazy so for the last week Oscar has been
slowly working away in there to clear the ground as well as the small animal pens. It has been hard work in the scorching sun, temperatures reaching the high 30's. Also the odd snake has been hanging around in there too! But as you will see from the photos there has been quite a transformation. Now we need to get Pascal and his digger to take out the big tree stumps and then scrape out all of the old weeds and roots.
Before the winter we will then cover the whole area with black plastic sheets, only removing them when we return in the spring. This will kill off nearly all of the weeds and leave the ground ready for growing some nice vegetables next summer. We need to keep this area under control as I am getting fed up of having to clear it.
