The biggest ceiling

This week we have been working on the third biggest ceiling in the chateau. Apart from the two main salons this bedroom has the largest ceiling. At the start of the summer we took down all the wattle & daub insolation between the old oak beams. It was so heavy that the solid beams had been bent a long way. We have installed a suspended metal frame work which we will then attach the plasterboard to.

Mark & Lynn have spent a few days installing the framework. It looks flimsy but in reality it is very strong and perfectly level. As you will see we have also hidden the large oak cross beam. This room was originally even bigger but was divided in two during the 1700's. The beam would look out of place in what will be a regency style bedroom.

Eduardo and I have spent a couple of days putting up the plasterboard. It is now finished but we will not plaster it until we return in the spring. The walls will also need plaster boarding so still quite a way to go with this room.
