Wild life

Over the summer we have invested a lot of money in landscaping and clearing the fields around the chateau. A few weeks ago we had the new grass sown and it is now looking amazing. However, yesterday we found that we have a herd of wild boar in our woods and they are coming out and destroying some of the new grass areas. Hopefully in the next days the local hunters are going to come and clear them out. Maybe we will also get some nice meat to make up for the damage!

The second problem that we have with the local wildlife is coypu. A small creature that looks a bit like a cross between an otter and a rat! I believe they were introduced to France because of their fur but have now overrun everywhere. They bread very quickly and there are now in excess of twelve of them in our lake. Eventually they will destroy the bank and are also eating our new grass - so like the wild boar they will have to go. We have traps, rifles and even a local marksman with a bow and arrow!
