Planting

Over the last 13 months we have cut down many trees. All dead trees as well as thinning out where they have self propagated. Now at last a moment has arrived that I have been waiting for - planting some new trees! In the large front garden of the chateau we have planted a red oak, a plumb tree, an apricot tree and a kaki tree. They will grow in the same area where we already have some fig trees and a cherry plumb tree. It will be nice for guests to be able to pick fresh fruit here!

Also we have dug up four small oak samplings from the edge of the forrest and re-planted these into a some pots. As well as these we have planted twenty acorns that have just started to grow a root. Hopefully we will get quite a few young oaks that will then be planted in the park. We already have about ten oak trees around the chateau, all of which are many hundreds of years old. I want to plant ten new ones. It is the plan to also plant Birch, Cedar, Lime and Beech trees throughout the park. I am very conscious of the fact that I have to plan for how it will be here in the next few hundred years. Some of what we will plant we will not live to really enjoy seeing them reach maturity.
