Tree on the roof

Ever since we bought the chateau I have wondered how somebody could allow a tree to grow out of the roof of one of the outbuildings! The little wash house with the bread oven stands separately from the chateau and next to the water tower. There is a fully grown tree growing out of the roof above the bread oven. When it first seeded and started to grow it would have been a 5 minute job to have pulled it out and kept the roof clear. Nobody did this, instead over the years they let it grow and grow ..... and grow. Madness. So today was the day it had to go. All I needed was a ladder and a chain saw. It took about 30 minutes to cut it away as much as possible and then drag the branches over to the fire. It is impossible to get it all out of the root as it has grown too deep and too big. Next summer I will poison it and wait for it to rot. We will also clear the roof of weeds and try and repair the whole bread oven as much as possible.
