Afternoon off

Sort of an afternoon off today. I had a guy out to quote for repairing and repointing stone walls, both inside and outside the chateau. His name is Rob and it turns out that he is a metal detectorist. He asked if he could detect around the chateau. Last year I had bought a metal detector but never had the time to take it out of the box. So now is a good opportunity to use it and get some instruction too.

It was fun and we did find a few interesting things along with a load of old crap! The very first find was an 1862 Napoleon III coin. We also found what seems to be 18th century ladies belt hook from the 18th century. Rob found what he thinks is a Merovingian clothing hook from the 9th century. Other finds were a headless toy soldier made of lead and best of all - a 20 centime coin from 1962 - into the chateau restoration fund!!
