Planting the border

Ever since we bought the chateau it has been a plan to plant a row of cypress trees along the eastern border. The cheapest place to buy the cypress trees was in Italy but I would have to collect them. So at the end of the ski season I headed to Italy with an empty van! I managed to fit 30 trees into the van so all I could smell for the next 12 hours was cypress.

The easiest way to plant them was to dig a trench, should have been a simple task with the digger. However the ground in this area is full of stone and large rocks for some reason. My 1.5 tonne digger was struggling with this so something bigger was needed. As we had Pascal and his huge digger booked for a few weeks time the trees would have to stay a while longer in their pots.
